Prevent Breast Cancer by Eating These Healthy Foods
Editor blog, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Superfoods Nov 22, 2015 0Breast cancer is a devastating illness, no doubt about that. According to the World Cancer Research Fund International, it is the most common among women all over the world. In 2012 alone, approximately 1.2 Million new cases were diagnosed.
There are ways to prevent it however, one of which is maintaining a good diet. Here are healthy foods that are especially powerful in improving your wellbeing as a whole and reducing your risks of acquiring breast cancer.
Fish
Tuna, sea bass, salmon and mackerel in particular are excellent sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are not only great for the heart but a good addition to any breast-cancer prevention diet as well. They also contain Vitamin D that helps keep cells from becoming cancerous. It is advisable to cut down on your consumption of processed meats. So start replacing those bacon and deli dishes with healthy fish meals. For starters, we highly recommend our Tuna Melt Wrap or Panini. They’re delicious, filling and great for your health.
Berries
They are packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that will improve your body’s fighting chance against breast cancer. So start including strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries in your meals. You might want to stock up on blueberries in particular. Research suggests that a specific phytonutrient contained in blueberries called pterostilbene can stop the growth and spread of cancerous tumors by causing the malignant cells to self destruct. So whip up a delicious and colorful breakfast today by adding these berries into your oats. Include them in your yogurt or smoothies too. Or try the Strawberry Peach and the Blueberry Raspberry on our breakfast menu. We also have smoothies and 100% juices such as the Strawberry Supreme and Raspberry Blast which will make a great addition to your daily routine.
Orange fruits and vegetables
The next time you buy ingredients for your meals, go after the orange-colored vegetables and fruits. Carrots, orange, cantaloupe, and sweet potato are just a few you can fill your pantry and fridge with. They are rich in carotenoids, a form of Vitamin A that lowers your risks of acquiring breast cancer. Red, yellow and dark green fruits and vegetables are recommended as well to further boost your body’s overall health. Do check out our salads too, particularly the Fresh Fruit Salad, Kale Vegetarian and Portobello.
Other foods and drinks that are said to help prevent breast cancer include walnuts, pomegranates, lentils, eggs, garlic, curry, flaxseed and green tea. Include these in your daily diet today and feel the difference. Also, do your best to hydrate, exercise regularly and get enough rest. By taking good care of your body, you’ll definitely have a higher chance of avoiding and fighting illnesses.
